The lecture is based on research of the corpus of Latin grammarians (Corpus grammaticorum latinorum) in terms of how they understood the length of syllables, accents, and prosody of words or sequences of words. These topics will be presented from the perspective of phonetic "barbarism", and the "elementa" as described by Priscian. Finally, the interlinkage between Latin prosody and the pragmatic needs of the Latin text will be examined.
