פרופ’ סקסטון יספר על פרויקט עולמי ראשון מסוגו שהקים University of the People . מדובר באוניברסיטה מקוונת שמאפשרת נגישות חינמית – רחבה, שוויונית, איכותית וחופשית להשכלה גבוהה. לומדים בה כיום כ-100,000 סטודנטים מכל העולם והיא מהווה קרש הצלה במיוחד עבור אוכלוסיות פגיעות כגון פליטים. הוא ידון גם בתובנות בעקבות ספרו האחרון, . Standing for Reason: The University in a Dogmatic Age (Yale University Press 2019).
John Sexton is President Emeritus of New York University, the Dean Emeritus of NYU Law School, and the Benjamin Butler Professor of Law. He joined the Law School faculty in 1981, was named the School’s Dean in 1988; he served in this capacity for fourteen years. He was named the University’s President in 2001 and served in that capacity until January 1, 2016. In addition to his work as President Emeritus, Sexton currently serves as the Chair of the University of the People President’s Council. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a member of the board of the Institute of International Education, the College Advising Corps, and the Board of Trustees of Trinity School, New York City. He is past Chair of the American Council on Education, the University of Rochester, the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities of New York, and the New York Academy of Sciences. While Dean of the Law School, he was President of the Association of American Law Schools. John Sexton received a B.A. in History (1963) from Fordham College; an M.A. in Comparative Religion (1965) and a Ph.D. in History of American Religion (1978) Fordham University; and a J.D. magna cum laude (1979) from Harvard Law School.
Dr. Tanya Zion-Waldoks, a lecturer in the Seymour Fox School of Education at Hebrew University, is a gender scholar, feminist activist, and mother of four. Tanya is fascinated by the intersection of religion, gender, and politics, with a focus on education and social change. Current research explores feminist activism and women’s political subjectivities in religious communities or traditional contexts in Israel, examined through qualitative studies with a comparative lens. In addition, she explores issues of gender equality in education and anti-racist activism in Israel. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Gender & Society, Signs, AJS Review. Tanya received her Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan’s Gender Studies program, a Kreitman and Israel Institute post-doctoral fellowship at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and a Rothschild and ISF postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for the Study of Religion, Princeton University.
