במסגרת הכינוס הראשון להשקת פורום לימודי גלובליזציה
נהוג לחשוב שהגל האחרון של הגלובליזציה החל בשנות השבעים של המאה הקודמת וצבר תאוצה למן שנת 1989, עם נפילת ברית המועצות. כיום, שלושים שנים מאוחר יותר, נראה שאנו בעיצומו של גל גלובליזציה מסוג אחר, הכרוך בסוגיות מטרידות חדשות – אקולוגיות, טכנולוגיות ופוסט-אנושיות. עוצמת ההתפשטות של וירוס קורונה מבליטה ביתר שאת את הסתמנות השינוי משום שהיא מדגישה מצד אחד את הבנליות של הגלובליזציה ומצד אחר את עתידה הלא ברור. בהרצאתו יעסוק פרופ’ ארג’ון אפדוראי בסוגיות אלו ובאחרות, במסגרת דיונו בעידן הגלובלי של ימינו ובאופן שבו אנו חווים אותו.

The Global Studies Forum is delighted to host a lecture
It is commonly understood that the current wave of globalization started during the 1970s and accelerated after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Nowadays, thirty years later, it seems we are experiencing a different wave of globalization, one that involves new ecological, technological, and post-human concerns. The spread of COVID-19 highlights further this potential transformation as it emphasizes both the banality of the global and its unclear future. In his talk, Prof. Arjun Appadurai will attend to these and other issues, as he will discuss the current global era and the ways we experience it.
