Tenure-Track Position: Medieval and Early Modern Jewry in the Mediterranean Basin

The Faculty of Jewish Studies and the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry at Bar-Ilan University invites applications for a tenure track position in the field of Medieval and Early Modern Jewry in the Mediterranean Basin, from Spain to Egypt (inclusive).

The position requires teaching in Hebrew at the highest pedagogical level, including both required undergraduate courses and advanced electives for undergraduates in the aforementioned field, graduate seminars in the candidate’s specific field of expertise, and advising masters and doctoral students. In addition, the candidate is expected to conduct independent and original research, to publish articles and books in reputable academic peer-reviewed platforms, to participate in local and international conferences, and to compete for research grants. Knowledge of relevant languages is a pre-requisite for consideration.

The successful candidate will begin teaching in October 2021. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree in relevant fields are invited to apply. Please submit the following documents:

1. Cover Letter (including names of references)
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Diploma or certificate of doctoral degree
4. List of publications
5. Two publications (if available)
6. Brief summary of research plans for the next few years
7. Teaching evaluations from the previous three years, (if available)
8. Three letters of recommendation from senior scholars

Documents can be in English or in Hebrew. Please submit all of the requested materials in one PDF document to the following e-mail address, and ask recommenders to send their letters directly to the same address: jewishhistory.dept@biu.ac.il . Candidates are responsible to make sure that all the above is sent in by December 1, 2020. Files missing any of these documents will not be evaluated.
