Robert and Myra Kraft and Jacob Hiatt Chair in Christian Studies

Brandeis University invites applications to fill the Robert and Myra Kraft and Jacob Hiatt Chair in Christian Studies, starting July 1, 2020. This is an open-rank, permanent position to be housed in a department (or departments) appropriate to the candidate’s discipline and area of research. We especially encourage applications from scholars of early Christianity with a focus on the Eastern Mediterranean or on Coptic, Syriac, or Arabic-speaking Christians in the first millennium CE. Through this appointment, we aim to expand Classical Studies at Brandeis and to complement our existing course offerings in Mediterranean studies, early Islam, and early Judaism. (Classical Studies at Brandeis offers an MA and the Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies houses PhD programs in Arabic and Islamic Civilization, Jewish Studies, and Bible and Ancient Near East.)

We seek candidates with a distinguished or promising publication record, recognized or potential leadership in the field, evidence of innovative and effective teaching, and expertise in relevant languages.The holder of the Chair will teach four courses a year, mentor graduate students, and participate in University activities.Applications will be considered at the rank of Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor on the tenure track (for candidates with a demonstrated record of achievement and extraordinary promise).
