The Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies (CJHPS) at Appalachian State University invites applications from senior scholars for its Fall 2020 Senior Center Fellowship. The fellowship provides a stipend of $20,000. We welcome proposals from outstanding scholars based at an academic or research institution in North America or abroad, who work in the fields of Jewish, Hebrew, Israel or Holocaust Studies. The chosen scholar will spend the Fall 2020 semester (August 15 to December 15) in residence at the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies. In cooperation with other campus units, the Center is able to provide limited support with housing accommodations. During the fellowship, the fellow will be expected to work on a research project, participate in Center events such as its research colloquia, and offer two public talks. Willingness to teach one upper-level class in the recipient’s area of expertise in Jewish, Hebrew, Israel or Holocaust Studies is a plus.
The Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies is located on the campus of Appalachian State University in the mountains of North Carolina. Since its establishment in 2003, the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies has sought to strengthen understanding and remembrance by increasing the knowledge of Jewish culture and history, researching and teaching the history and meaning of the Holocaust, and utilizing these experiences to explore peaceful avenues for human improvement and the prevention of further genocides. Interdisciplinary in orientation, the Center bridges the academic organizational structures in ways that facilitate collaboration between Appalachian State-based and visiting researchers, faculty and students from various fields in the context of Center-organized research colloquia, workshops, conferences, symposia and lectures. Researchers and visiting scholars can access the Center and university libraries, including resources such as the Visual History Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation.
