Interdisciplinary Society for Quantitative Research in Music and Medicine

The purpose of the upcoming conference is to explore unanswered questions regarding the efficacy of music and other complementary and alternative therapies on the human body, mind and soul, and share this new and unpublished information with erudite scholars in these fields. We invite all music scholars and allied health practitioners to submit a proposal. Graduate students who are in the process of completing their theses and dissertations are also encouraged to participate.

SUBMISSION

We are presently seeking proposals that focus on all aspects of the relationship of music to medicine in both quantitative and qualitative approaches. These proposals may be grouped in the following areas, but are not limited to: Music and memory; music and the brain; music and anxiety; music and pain; music and stroke; music and aphasia; music and oncology; music and palliation; music and neuroscience; music and personality disorders; music and well-being; music and emotion; music and thanatology; music therapy; music in medicine; music and special education; music and the mind; music, religion and healing; music and altered states of consciousness (trance); music and ophthalmology; music and dietetics; and music and any allied health profession. The mode of research should be clearly defined, explained and relevant. Master’s or Doctoral students in any or related fields mentioned may submit proposals.

Presentations may follow any of the following formats: (1) Oral presentation of individual papers (maximum 30 minutes); (2) Panel Presentation composed of several thematically related papers (maximum four papers) with a moderator / discussant. Panels will be allotted 90 minutes total; (3) Experiential Workshops which present methodological approaches to the application of music as medicine (maximum 60 minutes); and (4) Posters to be displayed at the conference accompanied by an open session of 60 minutes (Conference participants will get the opportunity to discuss research with authors).

Submit an abstract of no more than 500 words for individual papers, workshops, or posters. Panels should include an abstract for the panel as well as abstracts for each paper on the panel. All submissions must be formatted as Word documents and sent as e-mail attachments to contact@isqrmm.com. Include the authors’ names, affiliations, email addresses, contact phone numbers and presentation format.  ISQRMM adheres to a blind review process. In order to facilitate blind reviews, your identifiable information will be redacted when the submission is sent to reviewers.
