Concordia University Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies

Many of the awards are available in the area of Jewish Studies generally, and many are renewable. Please read each description carefully. Application Instructions follow the descriptions.

Naim Mahlab Fellowship: 2 @ $7,500.00

  • Two fellowships are awarded annually through competition to full-time or part-time students entering or pursuing Master or Doctoral studies.
  • Eligible candidates must be pursuing research in the area of Canadian Jewish Studies. Preference may be given to students pursuing research in the area of anti-Semitism and its roots.
  • This award is subject to Concordia’s Regulations on Holding Multiple Awards Simultaneously.
  • Awards are tenable within the first three years of a Master’s Program or the first five years of a Doctoral Program.
  • The fellowships are valued at approximately $7,500 are renewable once through competition.

Miriam Aaron Roland Fellowship: $5,000.00

  • The fellowship will be awarded to a candidate pursuing graduate or postdoctoral research in the areas of Canadian Jewish Studies or Jewish Studies at Concordia University.
  • The fellowship is valued at $5,000.

Romek Hornstein Memorial Fellowship: 2 @ $3,500.00

  • The fellowships are awarded to full-time Master’s/Magisterial and Doctoral students whose research is in the field of Jewish Studies at Concordia University.
  • The purpose of the fellowships is to help students of academic merit and promise who, without such assistance, would be unable to pursue graduate studies.
  • Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit. Financial need may be considered but is not necessary.
  • Two fellowships will be awarded annually to one male and one female student.
  • These fellowships are non-renewable.
  • They are tenable within the first three years of a Master’s/Magisterial or the first five years of a PhD Program.
  • This award is subject to Concordia’s Regulations on Holding Multiple Awards Simultaneously.
  • The fellowships are valued at $3500.

The Harris and Ann Wetstein Foundation Graduate Scholarship: $1500.00

  • This fellowship is open to all students whose research is in the area of Canadian Jewish Studies.
  • Awards are tenable within the first three years of a Master’s Program or the first five years of a Doctoral Program.
  • This award is subject to Concordia’s Regulations on Holding Multiple Awards Simultaneously.
  • The scholarship is valued at $1500.

Kanfi-Holzbauer Award: $1000.00

  • The award will be granted, based on academic merit, to deserving Master’s/Magisterial or Ph.D. students, Postdoctoral Fellows or Research Associates at Concordia University, to cover conference travel expenses or research travel expenses related to Jewish Studies or Canadian Jewish Studies.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that the goal of their trip is to attend a conference, pursue research, or attend meetings relevant to their studies/research.
  • Preference will be granted to candidates who have demonstrated that the Award is essential to their travels and that their trip is important to their studies/research.
  • The Award may be used to reimburse any type of expense related to the trip. Reimbursements will be issued by the School of Graduate Studies upon submission by the awardees of appropriate receipts.
  • The award is valued at $1000.
