W1 Professorship with tenure track to W2 in Jewish Studies (Judaistik)
The Faculty of Theology at the University of Göttingen is seeking to fill a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W1 NBesO) with tenure track (grade W2 NBesO) as of April 1, 2024:
W1 Professorship with tenure track to W2 in Jewish Studies (Judaistik) (f/m/d)
The successful applicant will initially be appointed for a period of three years. If the interim evaluation is positive, the employment contract will be extended for another three years. Transfer to a permanent professorship (W2) shall take place after another positive evaluation without the vacancy being readvertised.
We are looking for a team player and dedicated person who will cover the entire field of Jewish Studies in research and teaching. On the basis of the formative period of Judaism, the holder of the position will explore the diversity of Jewish religious culture and tradition from antiquity on to today, taking into account the original languages of the relevant sources. Special emphasis should be given to Jewish-Christian interrelations.
The holder of the position is required a) to participate in research projects within the faculty, in cooperative interdisciplinary research, in centres at the University of Göttingen, e.g., the prospective Centre for Antiquity, the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times (“Zentrum für Antike, Mittelalter und Frühe Neuzeit”, ZAMF), as well as in the Forum for Interdisciplinary Religious Studies (FIRSt), b) to have a serious commitment to raising external research funds (Drittmittel), and c) to be actively involved in academic self‐governance.
With regard to teaching, the holder of the position is required a) to teach in all programmes offered by the faculty (mostly in German, with some courses in English) as well as in the relevant study programmes offered by the Faculty of Humanities (e.g., Ancient Cultures and Religious Studies), b) to engage in research-led teaching, and c) to continue to reflect on and develop in pedagogy.
Requirements for an application are an excellent dissertation in the field of Jewish Studies as well as further high-ranking activities in academic research and teaching. Experience in the acquisition of external research funds (Drittmittel) is desirable.
