UNT is a Class I-Doctoral Granting institution located in Denton, Texas about 40 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT Denton, the flagship research campus of the UNT System, has over 39,000 students and over 5,000 graduate students, and is one of the top choices in the nation for transfer students. We are widely known as a premier school for music, arts, and the humanities, and our university has grown alongside the Dallas-Fort Worth region for more than 125 years, serving the diverse needs of the region’s 7 million inhabitants for public higher education and community engagement in the thriving college town of Denton.

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant history department at an R1 university and have the opportunity to participate in a number of interdisciplinary programs and initiatives. The UNT Department of History hosts the university’s minors in African American Studies and in Mexican American Studies, as well as its undergraduate certificate program in Food Studies. Several of our faculty members hold affiliations with the UNT Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and with the Latina/o Mexican-American Studies Program. The department is also home to UNT’s renowned Oral History Program, to a number of digital scholarship projects, to the UNT Military History Center, and to UNT’s Jewish and Israel Studies Program. Our graduate curriculum is structured around concentrations in U.S. history, European history, military history, and a thematic concentration titled “Body, Place, Identity.” We have more than 30 full-time faculty members; more than 500 undergraduate majors and minors; and nearly 100 graduate students. Our department teaches more than 8,000 students annually.

Responsibilities include teaching high-enrollment U.S. history survey courses; teaching upper-level undergraduate courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization; and performing departmental service. Candidates with experience advising students, completing projects of academic administration, and/ or teaching online are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of History at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time lecturer of United States history, with a preference for Jewish American history, to begin in Fall 2020. We are particularly interested in candidates who could teach both Jewish history and women’s history; otherwise the specialization is open. Candidates with expertise in any aspect of United States history are invited to apply. We seek candidates for this position who are dynamic and creative teachers, committed to mentoring and educating our large and diverse community of students.
