UC Davis Israel Institute Teaching Fellowship

In partnership with the Israel Institute, the Jewish Studies Program at UC Davis is pleased to offer a three-year teaching fellowship for scholars who integrate the study of modern Israel with vital currents in the humanities, social sciences, or arts. The successful candidate will teach four courses a year at UC Davis, part of the greatest research university system in the United States as well as a public-serving institution consistently top ranked for economic mobility and cultural diversity. Two of the courses will address any aspect of modern Israel, and two will be in any related area of the candidate’s expertise. The fellowship is renewable annually for a three year period.

We welcome applications from scholars with research and teaching strengths that connect 1) elements of the modern state of Israel with 2) a second related dimension of the humanities, social sciences, or arts. This broader dimension may include (but is not limited to): environmental studies/sciences; Jews of the non-Western World; ethnic and cultural diversity within Judaism and Israel; music and dramatic arts; legal studies; religion or folklore, including halakha or ritual; agriculture/food studies; gender and intersectional analysis; media and communications; Hebrew, Yiddish, Aramaic, or Judeo-Arabic literature and culture. We especially encourage applications in areas that complement, without duplicating, existing faculty expertise.

Please submit 1) a cover letter of no more than 2 pages focusing on research 2) a teaching statement including Israel-related teaching experience and interests 3) two syllabi, one for an introductory undergraduate Israel-related class and one for a class in the candidate’s area of interest. 4) a CV to jst@ucdavis.edu by JANUARY 12 2020 for full consideration.

We are an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer, and particularly encourage applications form members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ community members, and others who demonstrate the ability to help us achieve our vision of a diverse and inclusive community.
