The Department wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Medieval Literature. Candidates will be expected to be able to teach Old English language and literature at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Medieval Studies at King’s is characterised by its commitment to theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches to medieval culture. Applications from candidates with specialisms such as the following would be particularly welcome: visual and material culture; manuscript studies; the postmedieval reception of medieval literature and culture; gender and sexuality studies; race studies; ecocritical and environmental studies.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research and possess clear potential for future grant capture. They will provide teaching at UG level (including the module ‘Cultural Encounters: Literature and Language in Anglo-Saxon England’), and at MA level (including the module ‘The Visual and the Verbal in the Middle Ages’ and dissertation supervision for the MA in Medieval Studies). The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing development of King’s English Department as a key location for Medieval Studies in the UK. A record of work in public engagement and impact would be an advantage. The post will be based at the Virginia Woolf Building, King’s Strand Campus.
